A man has been struck and killed by a car and two other people have sustained serious injuries after being cut with edged weapons during a brawl on a highway.

Police say the disturbance involved a large number of people and occurred along the Victoria Highway at Timber Creek in the Northern Territory on Monday night.

It's alleged a car was driven dangerously through the area before striking and killing a 27-year-old man.

A 16-year-old male and a 65-year-old woman were assaulted with an edged weapon and sustained serious injuries, police said.

They were treated at the scene before being flown to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Police have set up crime scenes as investigations continue.

The Victoria Highway is expected to remain closed in both directions for the remainder of Tuesday.
