NSW Police stated that upon arrival, “officers attached to Surry Hills Police Area Command found a man, believed to be aged in his 40s under the carriage. The man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however he died at the scene”.

Police have set up a crime scene and are investigating the cause of the incident. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The incident has caused disruptions to light rail services in the area. Light rail services are not currently running between Moore Park and Central, however services are still running between Central and Circular Quay.

A spokesperson from Transport for NSW clarified that “L2 and L3 light rail services are still running between Moore Park and Randwick, and between Moore Park and Juniors Kingsford”, per 9 News.

“Replacement buses have been requested between Central and Moore Park but are not yet running.”

Passengers are being advised to check information displays at stops for updates and to consider alternative transport options or delay their travel if possible.
