Man jumps over counter and demands money at Co-op in Beeston

A man jumped over the counter and demanded money from staff at a Co-op in Beeston.

Police called to the store in University Boulevard at around 7.55pm on Monday, January 27, said a quantity of cash was taken.

The man left on a pushbike.

Detective Sergeant Rachael North, of Nottinghamshire Police, who is investigating the incident, said: “We urge anyone who saw anything or has any information to get in touch with us.

“This was a frightening incident for staff who were simply trying to go about their job, and we want to make it clear that such behaviour has no place in Nottinghamshire.

“We want to reassure people that we will not tolerate such actions and that any reports will be investigated and taken seriously.”

A spokesman for the Co-op added: "There was an incident at our University Boulevard store around 8pm yesterday evening (Monday, January 27) where a small amount of cash was stolen.

"Fortunately, no one was hurt. However, colleagues were left feeling shaken. We appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward to police, who are investigating. The store has since re-opened to serve the community.”

Anyone with information that may help the investigation is asked to contact the force on 101, quoting incident 823 of January 27.
