A man was injured at the popular Blue Lagoon in Pembrokeshire after jumping from the top platform.
The lagoon, at Abereiddy, is an old slate quarry and a favourite place for people to jump off the old quarry walls into the deep water below. The coastguard were called to help the man on Tuesday, August 2. It was the second time in a week that the coastguard had to be called out.
A local coasteering company helped get the man out of the water and fashioned a makeshift stretcher using a paddleboard. He was then airlifted away from the cliffs to a waiting ambulance where he was transferred to hospital.
The Fishguard Coastguard team worked with St Davids Coastguard to get the man to safety. A spokesman said: "On the team’s arrival on scene the casualty was out of the water and on a makeshift stretcher/paddle board with his neck being secured by a member of one of the local coasteering companies .
"As Coastguard’s took over casualty care a paramedic from Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust arrived on scene to take the lead , due to injuries and the location a helicopter was requested to evacuate from the quarry, so for the second time in less than a week coastguard’s set about clearing public from the quarry and surrounding area in order to set up a helicopter landing site.
"The helicopter landed in the quarry dropping off the onboard paramedics. The casualty was secured in the helicopter stretcher and flown out to a nearby waiting ambulance."
The Coastguard thanked the public for their assistance and cooperation in the "difficult circumstances".
