Man in critical condition following crash on Clevedon Road in Portishead

A man is in a critical condition following a crash in Portishead.

He was rushed to hospital after the single-vehicle collision, which took place in Clevedon Road at around 6.45pm yesterday evening (March 26).

Emergency services, including police officers, firefighters and paramedics, were called to the scene .

One eyewitness said: "I have never seen such a big response - there are at least five ambulances, two fire trucks and loads of police."

A woman also suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident, which closed the road for several hours.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary issued an update on the condition of the two injured people today, saying: "The man remains in hospital in a critical condition.

"The woman had minor injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing."

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service added: "We were called on Tuesday at around 6pm about a road traffic incident involving one vehicle on B3124 Clevedon Road, Portishead.

"We sent various resources to the scene including a hazardous area response team and an air ambulance.

"Two patients were transported by land ambulance to hospital."
