A murder investigation is under way after a man was shot dead in south London.
Police found the victim in his 40s with gunshot wounds near the Costco superstore in Imperial Way, Croydon, just after 5pm on Thursday.
He was treated by paramedics but sadly died at the scene.
A force spokesman said: “His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.”
Enquiries are ongoing, he added.
A TikTok video taken outside Costco appears to show the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos as shoppers fled for safety.
One lorry driver, who was making a delivery at the time, said: “I was dropping my load at the rear of the store when I saw a man running across the car park.
“Out of nowhere, another man opened fire ‘bang, bang’.
“He shot him as he was trying to escape. People were screaming and diving for cover. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
A forensics tent and cordon is now in place between the superstore’s car park entrance and the loading bay of Selco.
Specialist police officers also appear to be using a drone as part of their investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, leading the investigation from the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “This was a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the man's family at this difficult time.
“Our team of specially trained officers are supporting them as are our investigation progresses.
”Our enquiries are ongoing and we would urge any witnesses to come forward and share information with us.“
