A 66-year-old man has been taken to hospital after a car flipped onto its roof at Abermain on Saturday.

The 66-year-old was the sole occupant of the vehicle which left Cessnock Road and struck several parked cars before rolling about 2.30pm, according to a NSW Ambulance spokesperson.

The spokesperson said the driver managed to get out of the car by himself.

He was taken to Maitland Hospital with minor injuries.

Cessnock District Rescue Squad helped with the incident.

"Our team's first priority was to get the vehicle stabilised to make the environment safe for all persons in and around the overturned car," a statement from the squad said.

"The team from Fire and Rescue NSW station 202 Abermain were also on scene protecting everyone from fire and chemical danger, they had also assisted with the stabilisation process. NSW Police Force created detours for traffic and oversaw the whole scene."
