Man hit with shovel by thugs on quad bikes as shop door smashed in Leeds

A man was attacked with a shovel by two men on quad bikes while leaving a Leeds shop, it has been claimed.

The man then ran back into the shop in Middleton Park Road, holding the door shut behind him, as his attackers pounded at the door causing some damage.

The terrifying encounter happened just before 4pm on Wednesday (February 23).

The eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said: "Two lads on quad bikes whacked the man in the back with a shovel as he was walking out the shop.

"It looked like he was hit pretty hard. The person shut the door to stop them from entering.

"They broke the glass on the door, smashed the front of the shop window and that was it, they left. They were causing a scene, so they had to leave."

The eyewitness says the victim then got into a car and drove away.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating an assault which was reported at 4pm on Wednesday.

"Footage of the incident has been recovered and enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved.

"Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact 101 quoting log 1007 of February 23."
