A 31-year-old man has been arrested in Bangkok for allegedly selling counterfeit luxury-brand perfumes online, falsely claiming they were genuine products offered at unusually low prices because they were sold without boxes or as bottle-only imports.
Police raided a house in the Ramkhamhaeng area of Bang Kapi district and seized a large quantity of counterfeit products, with damage to brand owners estimated at 500,000 baht, Pol Lt Gen Natthasak Chaowanasai, commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, said on Saturday.
The suspect, identified only as Chayanon, was present during the raid and identified himself as the caretaker of the premises, which investigators said was being used to store and distribute goods.
The raid followed a complaint that an online seller had been offering fake luxury-brand perfumes, Pol Lt Gen Natthasak said.
The products were advertised as genuine items without boxes or as imported products sold only with the bottle, allowing them to be offered at prices significantly below market rates.
The search uncovered many bottles bearing counterfeit trademarks of globally renowned brands, including Dior, Louis Vuitton, Celine, Givenchy, Hermès, Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, Boss, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Burberry, Chanel, Armani, Coach, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Prada, Victoria’s Secret, Jo Malone and Bvlgari.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the charge and said he had purchased the products through online channels and local markets near his home before reselling them for profit.
