KOCHI: A 42-year-old man, who was out from jail on bail in a sexual assault case, was arrested by Njarackal police in another rape attempt case. The arrested was identified as Anandan of Njarackal who stands accused of attempting to sexually assault a woman in Puthuvype on Wednesday evening.
The incident pertaining to the case occurred when the accused approached the complainant, who was returning home after work, on his scooter. He convinced the woman of a fake job vacancy in a leading oil company and asked her to go with him to meet the concerned officials immediately to secure the job.
However, once the woman got on his scooter, he took her to a secluded place in Puthuvype. When she grew suspicious of his motives, the woman asked him to stop the vehicle. When he did not stop, the woman jumped off the scooter. She suffered injuries in the fall and based on her complaint the police team led by inspector Rajan K Aramana later arrested the accused.
The police said that the accused has two similar sexual assault cases in his name. In 2016, he had sexually assaulted a 67-year-old woman after convincing her to take to a hospital where her husband was admitted. However, he took her to a secluded place near HMT Quarters in Kalamassery and sexually assaulted her.
The additional district and sessions court sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment in the case but he managed to get a bail from the High Court and was out of the jail.
Later in 2021, he allegedly tried to sexually assault a 53-year-old woman by taking her on a two-wheeler to Puthuvype in 2021. The woman had managed to escape with minor injuries that time. Following this the police had moved to cancel his bail.
