Man held for live pet scam

A 28-year-old Chinese man wanted in China for an alleged investment fraud involving a live-pet business has been arrested in Bangkok.

Immigration Bureau investigators detained Chen Zhi after revoking his visa. The suspect has an arrest warrant issued by public security authorities in Hanyang district, Wuhan, Hubei province, China, on Nov 13, 2024, for allegedly illegally accepting public deposits.

Police said the suspect persuaded people to invest in a live-pet sales venture operated through the Miao Dun Pet Life Store in Wuhan, promising returns of 15% to 30%. He allegedly failed to pay the promised returns, causing losses to investors, before shutting down the business and fleeing to Thailand.

Acting on a request from Chinese police, immigration officers tracked him to a hotel in Din Daeng district on Friday. He has been transferred to immigration detention pending deportation to China for legal proceedings.
