Man giving money to homeless people divides opinions as some say it looks 'staged'

A man who films himself generously giving homeless people money has left some people divided as they question his motives.

Peter Bond regularly posts videos of himself surprising homeless people with money on his TikTok @pterbond, with many racking up millions of views.

Peter, who calls himself 'Mr $1 Bill' says he uses his platform to give back to people he sees sleeping rough.

One video, that has been viewed more than 11.6 million times, sees the TikToker handing a homeless man money disguised as a meal before catching his shocked reaction.

The video begins with Bond asking the homeless person: "What’s up, man? Are you hungry? I got you something to eat."

He then hands the man a polystyrene burger box filled with $300 (£220) in $1 bills.

Peter then tells the man to "enjoy and have a good one" and walks away quickly before the man, who has been reduced to tears, has the chance to thank him.

The video was captioned: "You can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone."

Many viewers rushed to praise Peter for his kind heart, and applaud him for his lovely charitable gesture as one person said: "Thank god you exist man."

Another wrote: "Bless your heart."

A third commented: "Protect this man."

"'Why do it and film for clout' sometimes others need to see it to take the example. That is how inspiring people happen," said someone else.

However, a few people believed it "looked set up," while another said, "staged."

Peter responded to negative naysayers in an interview with LADbible, where he said he "doesn't owe those viewers an explanation."

He said: "I’m filming these videos to inspire others to do the same and help others.

"I’ve spoken to some homeless people about filming good deeds & what they tell me is they don’t care, as long as they’re not being ignored cause that’s the 'embarrassing' part.

"I will continue to help, & film my interactions to inspire others & bring awareness to the everyday people that everyone else seems to ‘ignore’."
