Man found guilty of helping Daniel Khalife after escape from HMP Wandsworth

  • Adeel Khan, a 32-year-old prisoner from Waltham Forest , east London , has been found guilty of assisting Daniel Khalife after his escape from HMP Wandsworth in September 2023.
  • Khan, who worked alongside Khalife in the prison kitchen, helped him from inside the jail by asking Imran Chowdhury to withdraw £400 for Khalife and arranging a £120 payment for Chowdhury's involvement.
  • Imran Chowdhury, 26, from Chingford, east London, was cleared of the same charge, with the judge noting the jury's finding suggested he "didn't know what the hell was going on".
  • Evidence presented at Snaresbrook Crown Court included Khalife's diary containing Khan's contact details, multiple phone calls between them post-escape, and CCTV footage showing Chowdhury and Khalife together.
  • Khan was remanded into custody and is scheduled to be sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 4 September; Khalife was previously sentenced to 14 years and three months for breaching the Official Secrets and Terrorism Acts and escaping prison.
