Nov. 19--An East Garfield Park man was fatally shot near his home Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Police were called to the 700 block of North Spaulding Avenue about 7:10 a.m. and found a 21-year-old man shot in the alley, said Chicago Police spokesman Sgt. Bob Kane.
The man had been shot multiple times and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where police initially reported he was in serious condition.
The man, identified as Derick D. Coopwood, of the 700 block of North Christiana Avenue, was pronounced dead at 8:58 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Police were releasing no information on the circumstances of the shooting.
An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
