Man found dead in Alice River park with 'significant injuries', police say

Police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old man. (ABC News: Lucas Hill)

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of an 18-year-old man who was found with "significant injuries" at an Alice River park.

Officers were called to the park on Progress Road, south-west of Townsville, about 7:30am on Saturday.

An Alice River man was found dead upon arrival and a crime scene was declared.

Acting Chief Superintendent Chris Lawson said the body was found in a public area.

"The circumstances around the male being located at this stage are not clear," he said.

"All deaths are treated as suspicious until we can confirm otherwise and at this stage with the early nature of the investigation we can't establish whether it's a homicide or whether it's a sudden death which has occurred naturally."

A QPS spokesperson said the man was found with "significant injuries" and police have not ruled out self-harm.

The investigation continues.
