Man dies in hospital after falling from Redheugh Bridge in Newcastle

A man has died after falling from the Redheugh Bridge.

Emergency services were called just after 3pm on Sunday to concerns for the welfare of a man on Newcastle's Quayside.

Officers attended and discovered the man had fallen from the Redheugh Bridge and had landed on Skinnerburn Road.

A member of the public carried out CPR to the man before paramedics arrived at the scene.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service also attended.

The man was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where police confirmed he was fighting for his life.

However on Monday, they confirmed that he had passed away as a result of his injuries.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "“Shortly after 3pm yesterday (Sunday) we received a report of concern for the welfare of a male on Skinnerburn Road, Newcastle.

“Officers attended and found a man had fallen from the Redheugh Bridge and landed on the road below.

"Sadly, he died from his injuries.

“The man’s next of kin have been informed. There was no third party involvement and a report will be made for the coroner.”
