Man dies in flat fire in south London tower block

A man has died after a fire broke out at a flat at the bottom of a tower block in south London.

Around 30 firefighters and five fire engines responded to a fire on Dorset Road near Oval station just after midnight on Sunday.

The London Fire Brigade said the fire had been in a first-floor maisonette in an 11-storey residential block.

A man was declared dead at the scene after being found in the home by firefighters.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation by the Brigade and Met Police.

Part of the maisonette was damaged by fire.

The Brigade was first called about the incident at 12.01am on Sunday, and crews from Lambeth, Clapham, Peckham and Battersea fire stations to the scene.

The fire was under control by 1.27am on Sunday.
