A man has died after falling into a canal following reports of a body in the water near the towpath this morning.
Police and fire service were called to the towpath beside Bridgewater Canal this morning, reports Manchester Evening News.
The man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and the circumstances around his death.
Greater Manchester Police said: "There aren't believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time."
At the scene were several police cars, and two ambulance rapid response vehicles.
The incident led to congestion in the local area after police cordoned off the canal and towpath.

A Greater Manchester Police statement read: "We were called at 7.40am on Thursday 14 October to a report of a body in the canal near to Marsland Bridge, Sale.
"Police and Greater Manchester Fire Service responded and a man was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.
"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and the circumstances behind the incident."

"Anyone with information should contact the police online or call 101 quoting incident 686 of 14/10/2021."
It comes after a woman's body was found in a canal in Manchester in June.
The discovery led to police shutting off roads to investigate her death.
A large cordon was put up blocking off roads in the area as specialist forensic work was carried out at the scene.
