Man dies and woman left fighting for her life after horror crash in Leeds

A man has died and a woman is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash on a Leeds road yesterday evening.

A white Volkswagen Golf was travelling towards the city on Easterly Road, in Oakwood, at around 10.35pm, when it collided with a blue Seat Alhambra.

The crash, close to the junction with Hollin Park Mount, claimed the life of the male driver of the Alhambra who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The female passenger in the Alhambra was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Her condition is said to be critical.

The male driver of the Golf also suffered serious injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

West Yorkshire Police officers closed Easterly Road, which is a dual carriageway, in both directions following the smash.

The road was only reopened at around 8am today.

Police are appealing for information as enquiries into what happened continue.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, the movements of either vehicle immediately prior to it, or who may have dashcam footage that will assist is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101 or by using the options on the West Yorkshire Police website.
