Man dies after car crashes into tree in town near Castle Donington

A man has died after a collision in a market town near Castle Donington. Police were called to reports a Renault Clio had crashed into a tree on Station Road, Melbourne, just before 4.30am on Saturday (March 11).

The man, who had been driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash closed Melbourne Road between its junctions with Main Street, Kings Newton and Slade Lane, near the Donnington Park Farmhouse.

The road was shut for around nine hours from just before 5am as investigations took place. A resident who lives inside the cordon said forensics officers had been at the scene, reports Derbyshire Live.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward as they investigate the incident. A spokesperson for the force said: "A man has died following a collision in Melbourne in the early hours of yesterday morning.

"We were called to reports a Renault Clio had crashed into a tree in Melbourne Road in Melbourne just before 4.30am on Saturday. The man, who had been driving the vehicle, was sadly found dead at the scene.

"His family are aware and our thoughts are with them at this time. We would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident, or who may have any dash cam or CCTV footage which could help with our enquiries."
