Man creates fake timetable to propose at bus stop where he met his girlfriend

A man has been praised for his incredibly sweet proposal idea after he installed a fake timetable at a bus stop where he first met his girlfriend to pop the question. His partner was overjoyed by the gesture, despite warning him to avoid a public proposal.

Rory O'Keeffe, 32, came up with the very romantic idea which involved taking his girlfriend Charlotte Amey, 33, to a bus stop at 3am.

The pair have been together seven years since the moment they first met at a bus stop near King's Cross station in London.

They had briefly seen each other once before at a mutual friend's party but only started to speaking each other and swapping numbers at the public transport stop.

After deciding it was time to ask Charlotte to be his wife, Rory decided to weave their first meeting into his heartwarming proposal which sounds like it belongs in a Hollywood love story.

At first he was considering building a bus stop himself before realising that might not be the best idea.

Instead, he got his Photoshop savvy friend Trav to create a fake bus timetable from Archway to London Bridge where some of the stations had been replaced with the words: "Charlotte, seven years ago we met at this bus stop, now will you marry me?"

The timetable was also titled "Buses towards The Future" in another sweet touch.

Rory told the Metro: "Charlotte had said if you ever propose to me, it can't be in public, which was a bit of a problem because public transport is very public."

He decided to get Charlotte to the bus stop at 3am on a Saturday morning when there wouldn't be many about, but there were some drunk people reading his timetable when they got there, so he was worried they might spoil the surprise.

He took her to McDonalds before checking the busses on his phone and when he saw one had just left, he took her back to the bus stop.

He asked her: "Oh, which bus did we get seven years ago when we met?"

"While she was checking it, I got down on one knee behind her with the ring, and she saw her own name, swore a lot in confusion and eventually said yes."

Charlotte was overwhelmed with the proposal but only had one criticism which was that Rory had the bus in his fake timetable going in the wrong direction.

He was meant to have the bus going north but she noticed it was heading south and jokingly questioned if he thought their marriage would go south.

They are due to be getting married in North London later this year.

Much to Rory's surprise, his timetable is still at the bus stop - even after a year since the proposal.
