A 19-year-old man has been found guilty of the “sudden and unprovoked” murder of a man he didn’t know.
Rasheed Abdul Rahman approached and stabbed Mark Carroll, 55, in St Martin's Gardens, Camden on April 10 2024, causing fatal injuries.
Rahman was convicted of murder at Wood Green Crown Court on Wednesday, and was also found guilty of having an article with a blade or point, threatening another with an offensive weapon and robbery.
Police were called to St Martin’s Gardens on the day of the attack after receiving reports of an unresponsive man.
Officers and paramedics found Mr Carroll with a stab wound and he was transported to a local hospital, where he died despite the efforts of medical staff and emergency responders.
After the stabbing, Rahman fled the scene but was quickly located by officers and arrested on suspicion of murder.
The court heard that the two men were not known to each other, and the attack was sudden and unprovoked.
A fast-paced investigation followed, with Met detectives gathering CCTV footage, conducting forensic analysis and taking witness accounts from members of the public who were in the area at the time.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke, who led the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mark’s family and friends. Mark, who was local to Camden, lost his life in tragic circumstances - though no outcome will ever be enough, we hope today’s conviction offers his loved ones some closure.
“I would like to thank the members of the public who came forward and the witnesses who supported this investigation. Their evidence has been vital in securing today’s guilty verdict.”
Mr Carroll’s daughters, Ayisha and Danielle, said: "We are relieved that justice has been delivered for our family. While nothing can ever bring our dad back, we are grateful to finally have some sense of closure after losing him in such a horrific way.”
Rahman will be sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court at a later date.
