Manchester City's exciting academy winger Samuel Edozie has suffered an injury setback that will keep him out until the new year.
Edozie, 18, was one of the stars of pre-season, building on a good campaign last season with City's academy sides.
The winger scored three goals in pre-season as Pep Guardiola waited for most of his senior players to return, and was rewarded with a start at Wembley in the Community Shield — his senior debut.
The winger has been a regular in first team training since, earning call-ups to the bench in the recent games at Brighton and West Ham in Ferran Torres' absence. He has four goals and one assist in ten academy appearances so far this season, including a goal against League One side Doncaster in the EFL Trophy and one in the UEFA Youth League win over Leipzig.
However, Edozie now joins Torres on the sidelines, confirming a leg injury on Instagram on Monday night.
He wrote: "Unfortunately I have suffered an injury which will most likely keep me out until 2022. However I will be back soon, stronger than ever."
Posting a picture with his left leg in a brace, he added: "I'll be back soon," with a number of academy teammates sending messages of support. Liam Delap, James McAtee, Jayden Braaf, Finley Burns, Romeo Lavia, Luke Mbete and Oscar Bobb were among these wishing Edozie well in his recovery.
After his goalscoring run in pre-season, Guardiola praised Edozie as 'incredible' for his potential and attitude shown with the first team.
“Like all of them, as a young talent having a special quality, a guy who gets to the box with the intention to score the goal is important for wingers,” he said.
“He's an incredible young player, good pace. Be patient with him. With minutes they play good and this is important.”
