Man City vs Crystal Palace LIVE!
Manchester City brushed aside Crystal Palace 3-0 to keep themselves alive in the Premier League title race. Pep Guardiola’s side had to win their game in hand at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night to prevent leaders Arsenal from clinching their first championship for 22 years with a win at home to relegated Burnley next week. And they did just that, though made a sluggish start after Guardiola made six changes to the side that beat Brentford ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea, with the likes of Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki all named on the bench.
Jean-Philippe Mateta thought he had scored just two minutes in for a Palace team under Oliver Glasner that made four changes of their own with nothing to play for domestically and a Conference League final showdown with Rayo Vallecano coming up, with the visitors looking the most dangerous initially on the counter-attack despite City dominating possession. However, they fell behind after the half-hour mark when man of the match Phil Foden’s stunning backheel teed up Antoine Semenyo to fire beyond Dean Henderson.
Foden was the provider again for Omar Marmoush to double the lead before the interval, with City only growing in confidence thereafter as they later bettered Arsenal’s goal difference as Savinho wrapped up a commanding victory six minutes from time after a fine Cherki assist. - GOAL! Savinho strikes as City overtake Arsenal's goal difference
- GOAL! Marmoush doubles lead before break
- GOAL! Semenyo nets after brilliant Foden backheel
Man City 3-0 Crystal Palace
22:05 , George FloodJob done for Manchester City, who win their game in hand easily to cut Arsenal's Premier League title lead down to two points with two matches left to play for both.
City's goal difference is now one better than Arsenal's.
Arsenal cannot clinch the title at home to relegated Burnley on Monday night, but if they win that game then City have to then win at high-flying Bournemouth on Tuesday night to take the race to the final day, when Arsenal are at Crystal Palace and City host Aston Villa.
Palace stay down in 15th ahead of a trip to Brentford, with the Conference League final their only motivation during the end to Oliver Glasner’s reign.
First up for City before the south coast is the small matter of the FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday as they look to complete step two of a desired domestic treble.
Foden the star of the show, proving a point to Thomas Tuchel before England;’s World Cup squad selection next week.

Man City 3-0 Crystal Palace
21:54 , George Flood96 mins: One last push from Palace as they break and Stones survives a penalty shout.
Kamada’s corner is plucked out of the air by Donnarumma, who looks to send City speeding forward on the counter.
The full-time whistle sounds.
Man City 3-0 Crystal Palace
21:50 , George Flood91 mins: Savinho is still suffering with cramp here as he goes down again.
Again he’ll be okay to finish the game.
Guardiola is out of subs anyway.
Man City 3-0 Crystal Palace
21:49 , George Flood89 mins: Now Ait-Nouri is down after being crowded out on the byline, but he’s quickly back to his feet.
Palace are pushing for a late consolation goal but Donnarumma easily saves from Sarr.
Five minutes of added time signalled.
Man City 3-0 Crystal Palace
21:46 , George Flood86 mins: Cherki and Savinho almost combine again before the latter goes down with what looks like a spot of cramp.
GOAL! Man City 3-0 Crystal Palace | Savinho 84'
21:43 , George Flood84 mins: Game, set and match!
City’s goal difference is now BETTER than Arsenal’s as Cherki glides forward and plays a lovely little pass in for Savinho, who finishes coolly into the far corner.
Moments before, Strand Larsen had smashed over for Palace.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:41 , George Flood82 mins: Clyne replaces Munoz for Palace, while Guardiola introduces Stones in place of Foden.
Great reception for Stones, who will leave City this summer.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:40 , George Flood80 mins: A dreadful pass out by Donnarumma is seized upon by Kamada, who sprints into the box and goes down under minimal contact from Kovacic.
Referee Stuart Attwell blows his whistle, but it’s a free-kick for City and a yellow card for simulation for Kamada, rather than a penalty.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:36 , George Flood78 mins: Disappointing for City as Doku is stopped in his tracks while trying to lead a promising attack.
Kovacic and Cherki are both coming on now for the hosts.
Silva and Marmoush off.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:33 , George Flood75 mins: Johnson is indeed the man to make way for Kamada.
Kovacic will be on for City shortly too.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:31 , George Flood72 mins: Johnson earns Palace another corner which he’ll also take, but it’s claimed easily enough by Donnarumma.
Johnson is about to be replaced by Kamada.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:30 , George Flood69 mins: Lacroix with a headed clearance as Doku delivers a teasing cross into the Palace box.
Guardiola is extremely animated down on the touchline just at the moment.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:28 , George Flood66 mins: Dominant City are playing effective keep ball at the moment, but they aren’t injecting much energy into trying to increase that potentially crucial goal difference.
Wharton picks out Johnson with a fine lofted pass on the break for Palace, but the latter’s rushed cross from the left intended for Strand Larsen sails behind for a goal kick.
A disappointing lack of composure from the former Tottenham star.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:22 , George Flood63 mins: A bad mistake by City captain Silva as he loses the ball in a dangerous area and Palace stream forward, but it’s a frustratingly tame low effort from substitute Sarr that is easily gathered by Donnarumma.
Silva raises his hand in apology to his team-mates.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:19 , George Flood60 mins: Glasner is sending on all of Wharton, Sarr and Strand Larsen on the hour mark.
They replace Hughes, Pino and Mateta.
Strand Larsen looks to get in behind straightaway, but Donnarumma is not tested and the offside flag is up anyway.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:18 , George Flood59 mins: Boosted by Doku’s arrival, City suddenly turn up the tempo with some tidy passing and neat, quick footwork inside the Palace box.
Marmoush has one shot blocked before lashing another wide of the near post.
A triple change is now coming from Palace.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:16 , George Flood57 mins: Nunes and Gvardiol are the City pair to make way for Ake and Doku, who gets a great reception from the home crowd.
Not the man you want to see coming on at 2-0 down if you’re a Palace defender.
Almost an hour for Gvardiol on his first appearance for four months.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:14 , George Flood55 mins: Richards flicks away Nunes’ initial cross before Munoz blocks behind for another City corner.
Doku and Ake are preparing to come on for City.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:12 , George Flood54 mins: Khusanov closes the door on Lerma before City break and Henderson comes rushing out early to deal with the danger.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:10 , George Flood52 mins: A quiet start to the second period before a rough challenge on Savinho by Mitchell earns the Crystal Palace man the first booking of the night.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
21:03 , George FloodBack underway at the Etihad, where the rain is still pouring down.
No half-time changes from either side.
Will City cruise to a comfortable win here, or can Crystal Palace fight back?
Guardiola will be eager for his side to score more for the goal difference, which is now level with Arsenal’s at +42.

Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
20:53 , George FloodAn initially slow start from much-changed City but Semenyo and Marmoush have them comfortably ahead at the break and looking for more goals.
Foden is really impressing before England's World Cup squad selection next week. His backheel for the opener was outrageous.
As it stands, Arsenal’s title lead will be down to two points with two games to go and no chance to clinch it against Burnley.

Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
20:49 , George FloodHalf-time
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
20:49 , George Flood45 mins: Just the one minute of added time signalled at the end of this first half as City, now teeming with confidence, push for a third goal that would well and truly put this game to bed.
Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace
20:46 , George Flood41 mins: City are absolutely purring now after a slow start as Henderson somehow keeps out Gvardiol’s powerful header from a Foden cross.
Foden is enjoying himself out there as he looks to impress Thomas Tuchel before England’s World Cup squad selection next week.
GOAL! Man City 2-0 Crystal Palace | Omar Marmoush 39'
20:42 , George Flood39 mins: It’s two before the break!
It’s all very messy after Foden can’t take the ball down from a cross and Marmoush then rolls Mitchell before his low shot deflects in off the defender.
They all count.
Man City 1-0 Crystal Palace
20:35 , George Flood33 mins: Palace respond almost immediately as Donnarumma parries behind a fierce strike from Mitchell on the counter.
They threaten from the corner too, but City scramble clear.
GOAL! Man City 1-0 Crystal Palace | Antoine Semenyo 31'
20:33 , George Flood31 mins: Deadlock broken after half an hour!
An absolutely wonderful backheel from Foden into the path of Semenyo, who fires low past Henderson.
City off and running.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:31 , George Flood28 mins: Savinho tries to release Semenyo inside the box but Henderson rushes out to easily gather.
This is just not good enough at the moment from much-changed City.
They are missing the trickery of Cherki and Doku’s nous.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:27 , George Flood25 mins: Foden is kept under wraps at one end before Johnson almost gets in for Palace at the other.
A weird feel to this one at the moment, like a training game.
You’d never know the stakes were so high in terms of the title race.
Johnson now falls heavily but is helped back up and is fine to continue.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:23 , George Flood22 mins: It’s all too slow and ponderous from City, now Savinho can’t pick out Foden and his errant pass goes behind.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:22 , George Flood21 mins: Guardiola has his hood up on the touchline as the rain now crashes down at the Etihad.
Nunes and Semenyo try to link up down the City right, but the pass is overhit and runs behind for a goal kick.
Well-drilled Palace doing well to deny them space back there.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:19 , George Flood20 mins: Better from City as Ait-Nouri cuts in off the left and plays a nifty one-two with Guehi before lashing low into the side netting.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:18 , George Flood19 mins: Hughes now gets out to block Silva’s hopeful effort on the edge of the box.
City continue to probe patiently here, but it’s all quite comfortable for Palace still.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:17 , George Flood17 mins: Hughes intercepts a dangerous low cross from the right from Savinho, but Palace’s clearance is rushed and Khusanov seizes on the ball before following centre-back partner Guehi in firing high and wide from range.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:16 , George Flood15 mins: Guehi blasts high and wide for City, who continue to dominate possession but have yet to fashion a chance of any kind to test Henderson in the Palace goal.
It’s a very subdued atmosphere at the Etihad early on.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:12 , George Flood12 mins: Palace carve open City on the counter again as they win possession back and charge down the left flank before Pino’s effort from inside the box is deflected behind off Gvardiol.
Richards then gets up at the front post above Guehi and heads over from the resulting corner.
I think that came off Guehi actually, but it’s a goal kick.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:10 , George Flood7 mins: The early corner count is ticking over for City as they dominate possession as usual and put Palace under a lot of pressure following that initial scare.
The visitors are holding firm at the moment and do have a clear threat on the counter, but need more of a consistent out ball.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:07 , George Flood4 mins: It’s not always easy to tell with the way City pile bodies forward and interchange, but it looks like it is Ait-Nouri in midfield alongside Silva, with Khusanov at centre-back, Nunes at right-back and Gvardiol on the left.
The front four looks very fluid, with Semenyo operating more centrally early on.
City turn up the pressure and handball shouts in the box against Canvot are waved away after a cross skips up and hits him.
His arm wasn’t stretched out, so play goes on and City force a couple of quick-fire corners before Palace try to burst out on the counter once more.
Man City 0-0 Crystal Palace
20:03 , George Flood2 mins: City are caught out completely on the counter-attack early after a positive start and Donnarumma makes a huge save to deny Mateta.
However, the offside flag is belatedly raised against Johnson.
That may have gone over the line actually. It doesn’t count, regardless.
An early warning and reprieve for the hosts.

Can City close the gap on Arsenal to two points in the Premier League title race with two games to go?
It’s time to find out...
Man City vs Crystal Palace
19:57 , George FloodHere come the teams at the Etihad.
City in familiar sky blue tonight, with Palace in their gold away kits.
Stuart Attwell is the referee, with John Brooks on VAR duty.
How the title race stands
19:49 , George FloodA handy look at the Premier League table ahead of kick-off at the Etihad...

Man City fans shocked by scale of Guardiola changes
19:40 , George FloodSocial media is awash ahead of kick-off with FPL managers furious at both lineups, with Sarr’s benching for Palace also key on that front.
Plenty of City fans, meanwhile, appear stunned by the scale of Guardiola’s changes despite what he said pre-match and that looming FA Cup final.
Some see it as underestimating Palace despite Glasner’s own changes for a third game in six days and 57th of the season across all competitions, the most extreme seem to think he’s effectively waving the white flag to Arsenal in terms of the Premier League title race.
Worth noting that this City lineup is still worth hundreds of millions of pounds, mind...
Could be wrong but looks likes a back three which i am quite happy with we still have width and actually more pace but does look like Pep gave up on title now #mcfc https://t.co/GWDLvdUFBU

Ait-Nouri to make rare start in Man City midfield?
19:34 , George FloodHaving said that, Khusanov and Guehi have established a fine partnership at centre-back and it would be potentially foolish for Guardiola to disrupt that.
Ait-Nouri has never played in midfield for Manchester City before and, according to Sky Sports, only ever did it once during four years at Wolves.
Could he or Gvardiol maybe do a stint at right-back if it’s actually Nunes in midfield, if Guardiola wants to partner Khusanov and Guehi again?
I’ll also be intrigued to see how it works going forward, with that front four all very interchangeable.
Trying to second-guess Pep’s selections is always a tough gig.

How will Man City line up?
19:26 , George FloodGuardiola said there that everyone is fit, so it seems that there’s no new injury to O’Reilly despite his complete omission from the Manchester City squad this evening.
Safe to say that Pep is not a popular man with FPL managers tonight.
It will be interesting to see exactly how City line up, with a few different possibilities looking at the team sheet.
City have listed it as Ait-Nouri playing in midfield alongside captain Silva, with Gvardiol at left-back in a back four.
I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s actually Nunes in midfield with Khusanov at right-back, Ait-Nouri at left-back and Gvardiol at centre-back alongside ex-Crystal Palace captain Guehi.
We will wait and see.
Guardiola explains Man City changes
19:20 , George FloodPep Guardiola admits during his pre-match interview with Sky Sports that Manchester City have one eye on Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley.
He also doesn’t appear to deny that Arsenal’s result over West Ham on Sunday may have helped influence his team selection for tonight.
He is thrilled to have Josko Gvardiol back.

Crystal Palace make four changes as Mateta starts
19:10 , George FloodCrystal Palace show four changes of their own from Sunday’s lively home draw with Everton.
Jean-Philippe Mateta gets the nod up front ahead of Jorgen Strand Larsen after his late equaliser off the bench at Selhurst Park, with Ismaila Sarr replaced by Yeremy Pino.
The backline is unchanged, though there’s a different midfield partnership as Adam Wharton and Daichi Kamada make way for Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes.

Guardiola rings changes with Haaland, Cherki and Doku all on bench
19:03 , George FloodSo Pep Guardiola has indeed opted to rotate massively ahead of what is, on paper at least, the most winnable-looking of Manchester City’s four remaining matches this season.
As mentioned, Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki and Jeremy Doku are all on the bench, with no Nico O’Reilly at all and Rodri still not risked.
Abdukodir Khusanov does return in defence, where there’s a surprise start for Josko Gvardiol on his first appearance since breaking his leg against Chelsea on January 4.
Ruben Dias is also back on the bench following his two months out with a thigh injury.
It’s six changes to the side that beat Brentford, with Khusanov, Gvardiol, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Phil Foden, Savinho and Omar Marmoush replacing Nathan Ake, O’Reilly, Tijjani Reijnders, Cherki, Doku and Haaland.
No Nico Gonzalez in the squad either.

Crystal Palace lineup
18:49 , George FloodCrystal Palace XI: Henderson, Munoz, Richards, Lacroix, Canvot, Mitchell, Lerma, Hughes, Johnson, Pino, Mateta
Subs: Benitez, Sarr, Clyne, Kamada, Wharton, Strand Larsen, Riad, Devenny, Cardines
Man City lineup
18:47 , George FloodIt is right! And no Jeremy Doku starting, either. Wow. O’Reilly not even on the bench.
Man City XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, Gvardiol, Ait-Nouri, Bernardo, Foden, Semenyo, Savinho, Marmoush
Subs: Trafford, Dias, Reijnders, Stones, Ake, Kovacic, Haaland, Cherki, Doku
Man City team news leak?
18:37 , George FloodThe official team news from the Etihad Stadium will drop in around 10 minutes’ time, but there are whispers on social media that none of Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki or Nico O’Reilly start for Manchester City tonight.
We wait and see if that’s accurate. Bold calls from Pep Guardiola if so!

Guardiola has no concerns over Crystal Palace motivation against Arsenal
18:33 , George FloodPep Guardiola was also asked yesterday if he had any concerns about Crystal Palace facing Arsenal on the final day of the season in a game that comes just three days before the Conference League final.
“They're so professional, the team,” he said. “Crystal Palace will play top against us.
“We saw Leeds yesterday against Spurs, even being out of the relegation battle so they are in the Premier League again - how they compete.
“We played Aston Villa here in the past, nothing to play for and how difficult it was.
“I am sure they will do their best, knowing that they have the final [in] three days.”

Guardiola ponders Man City rotation amid hectic finale
18:24 , George FloodManchester City’s journey to the final of both domestic cup competitions this season means they face a hugely congested end to a hectic campaign, with both tonight’s game and next week’s trip to Bournemouth having to be rearranged.
It means they now play four games in the space of just 12 days to finish, including Saturday’s FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley.
Does Pep Guardiola plan to make changes tonight given that gruelling fixture schedule?
“It is not a problem for this game, we arrive with four-days-and-a-half,” he said yesterday.
“But of course, after three days we travel to London, come back and then Bournemouth and of course in the last few days I have to think about it.”

Guardiola: Man City are still fighting for the title
18:18 , George FloodPep Guardiola shrugged off questions at yesterday’s muted pre-match press conference about how Arsenal’s dramatic and controversial late win at West Ham on Sunday had affected his players.
On how it impacted his own mood, he said: “Crystal Palace [his focus] and thinking what I have to do, to always learn from my career as a manager, what you control, to do better, what you've not done better this season, to arrive in a better position.
“We are still fighting.”
He also had no interest in questions around the VAR drama that surrounded Arsenal’s victory and the contentious issue of grappling in the penalty area at set-pieces.
“It's not the right person to ask, to me,” he said. “What is said, is said in the past. It is a question for the referees, what they decide, not me.”
He added: “VAR has not been installed in the last weekend, it has been here for many years here. We adapt, we know it. Everybody knows it.”

Title race permutations as Arsenal watch on
18:10 , George FloodA reminder that the title race cannot be decided tonight, whatever transpires at the Etihad Stadium.
But if Manchester City draw or lose against Crystal Palace, then Arsenal would seal their first Premier League crown for 22 years with a win over already relegated Burnley at the Emirates Stadium next Monday night.
If City beat Palace, then Arsenal cannot clinch the title against Burnley.
If City win tonight and Arsenal defeat Burnley, then City would need to beat high-flying Bournemouth away next Tuesday night to take the fight down to the final day - when they host Europa League finalists Aston Villa and Arsenal go to Palace.
In that scenario, Arsenal would go into the final day with a two-point advantage.
City will also have a keen eye on the goal difference, with theirs now only two behind Arsenal’s after brushing aside Brentford 3-0 and the Gunners beating West Ham 1-0 in controversial fashion - +40 compared to +42.
Palace could yet have a massive say in the destination of the title by facing both City and Arsenal, though have little left to play for themselves in Premier League terms as they sit down in 15th place - eight points above the relegation zone and nine adrift of the top seven.
However, they will want to finish as strongly as possible during the final weeks of Oliver Glasner’s memorable managerial tenure and go into that Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano with plenty of momentum.

Man City vs Crystal Palace prediction
17:57 , George FloodThere are few more frightening prospects in football than facing Manchester City during the run-in.
They have been in formidable form of late. Last week’s draw at Everton was a blip, and potentially a damaging one in terms of the title race, but they got back to winning ways in fine fashion against Brentford.
Even if Pep Guardiola opts to rotate for this match ahead of the FA Cup final, he will expect nothing less than a win. We expect the same.
Man City to win, 3-1.

Crystal Palace team news
17:53 , George FloodCrystal Palace’s team news picture remains largely the same with their Conference League final showdown against LaLiga side Rayo Vallecano in Leipzig coming up on May 27.
Long-term absentees Eddie Nketiah and Cheick Doucoure remain out, while Aston Villa loanee Evann Guessand and Borna Sosa are now back in training following their respective injuries.
However, Oliver Glasner confirmed on Tuesday that neither player would be in contention for tonight, with the hope that they will both be able to return in Sunday’s trip to Brentford.
Palace will be working with the same squad as for Sunday’s eventful 2-2 home draw with Everton, in which Jean-Philippe Mateta came off the bench to rescue a late point after Ismaila Sarr had initially cancelled out James Tarkowski’s early goal.

Man City team news
17:48 , George FloodManchester City could be boosted for tonight’s must-win game by the respective returns of Rodri and Abdukodir Khusanov.
Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder Rodri has missed the last four matches with a groin injury suffered in last month’s 2-1 win over title rivals Arsenal.
Centre-back Khusanov, meanwhile, was absent from Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Brentford having sustained a knock in the costly 3-3 draw at Everton.
“Better” Pep Guardiola said of Rodri at yesterday’s pre-match press conference. “We will see in training this afternoon.”
On Khusanov, he added: “Better as well. [He took a) tough knock against Beto when he played Everton. He’s better.”
Josko Gvardiol is now back in training after being sidelined since early January with a broken leg, but has yet to return to the matchday squad.

Man City vs Crystal Palace live
17:39 , George FloodHello and welcome to Standard Sport’s live coverage of Manchester City vs Crystal Palace.
It’s another absolutely crucial evening ahead in a thrilling Premier League title race as City look to win their all-important game in hand and cut the gap to leaders Arsenal to just two points with two games left to play this season.
Victory is essential for Pep Guardiola’s domestic treble chasers tonight if they are to prevent the Gunners from potentially clinching the title at home to relegated Burnley on Monday night, before City then go to high-flying Bournemouth 24 hours later in their penultimate fixture.
They must ignore the sizable distraction of this weekend’s FA Cup final clash against Chelsea at Wembley and see off a Crystal Palace side who have one eye firmly fixed on the Conference League final and who also take on Arsenal on the final day.
Kick-off at the Etihad Stadium is at 8pm BST, so stay tuned for match build-up, breaking team news and live game updates.
