Man City vs Bournemouth 'may be last time' Stones plays for Blues, Jamie Carragher claims

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes John Stones' time at Manchester City could be coming to a close when the season ends.

The England international made only his second Premier League start of the season for the midweek clash against relegation-threatened Bournemouth, as part of five changes made by Pep Guardiola.

That led to discussions about whether Stones will have the opportunity to force his way back into the first-team fold at the Etihad Stadium, with just a few games remaining this term.

However, Carragher isn't convinced that such a chance will occur and believes the match against the Cherries could be the last time Stones plays in a City jersey.

"I'm not sure he does have a future here. I think Pep Guardiola has played numerous players in his position, even a midfielder in Fernandinho and the young lad Eric Garcia," he said on Sky Sports' commentary.

"It may actually be the last time we see Stones in a Manchester City shirt. He was brought in for big money and it hasn't quite happened for him."

Stones joined City from Everton in July 2016 for a fee of £47.5m, which made him the second-most expensive defender in world football at the time.
