Manchester City are not interested in signing Bruno Fernandes, according to club sources.
The Sporting midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to the Blues this summer as Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen a squad that needs cover for Fernandinho and could see Ilkay Gundogan leave.
Bernardo Silva recently talked Fernandes up, calling him a great player and adding: "He has made a fantastic season with many goals, many assists that are not normal for a player of his position, he has the spearhead numbers and we will see what happens at the end of the season.
"[He is a] player who can play in other championships."
City had not previously commented on links to the 24-year-old, but have now stated that they have not contacted Sporting over a deal and are not interested in signing the player.
The club have also shelved plans to sign a left-back this summer despite ongoing concerns about the position with Benjamin Mendy's fitness concerns. Guardiola had said that the Blues would be looking to sign a player in that position but those plans appear to have changed.
