Man City signing 'might be better' than Liverpool talisman Virgil van Dijk

Manchester City have been told they have a young centre-back who is already BETTER at playing football than Liverpool talisman Virgil van Dijk.

And he comes from the same Dutch club that the Reds snapped up teenager Sepp van den Berg.

Philippe Sandler was signed by City from PEC Zwolle 12 months ago and made appearances in the FA Cup and League Cup last season.

The 22-year-old will spend the new season on loan at Anderlecht and John Van't Schip, who recommended Sandler to City when working at PEC Zwolle, believes the youngster has already surpassed Van Dijk in certain aspects of his game.

When asked about a comparison with the Holland international, Van't Schip told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws: “That's hard to say.

Sepp van den Berg: Reaction to Dutch youngster's arrival

“Van Dijk has of course already achieved it at Groningen, Celtic, Southampton and Liverpool.

"But playing football, Philippe might be better.

“Only defensively does he have to improve. He still needs to grow.”

City had wanted to sign Van Dijk two years ago, only for player to prefer a move to Liverpool, who he joined for £75million in January 2018.
