Man City player ratings as Ilkay Gundogan leads by example in win over Porto

Manchester City began their quest for a maiden Champions League crown with a hard-fought win over Porto.

Sergio Aguero, Ilkay Gundogan and summer signing Ferran Torres scored the goals that ensured Pep Guardiola's side made a winning start to Group C.

But the victory was hard-earned for City, who were made to work hard by the Portuguese champions, before the Blues ultimately made their superiority count.

City made the worst possible start, going behind to a superb solo goal from Porto's Colombian striker Luis Dias after 14 minutes.

But Guardiola's side got back on level terms from the penalty spot six minutes later through their club record goalscorer Aguero.

City had to wait until the 65 minute to take the lead, through an exquisite free-kick from Gundogan, with Torres coming off the bench to make it 3-1 eight minutes later.
