Man City morning headlines as club confirm summer signing with Leroy Sane agreement reached

Here are the Manchester City morning headlines for Wednesday, July 1.

City confirm summer signing

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Juventus starlet Pablo Moreno.

The 18-year-old forward joined the Serie A giants two years ago, having developed his skills in Barcelona’s fabled La Masia youth academy.

He’s represented Spain at under-16, under-17 and under-18 levels, but is yet to make a senior club appearance, having turned out for Juventus’ under-23 side in Serie C this season.

MEN Sport understands the fee is in the region of £9m, and as part of the deal, City forward Felix Correira will move in the other direction and is due to undergo a medical at the Turin club.

Agreement reached with Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane

Leroy Sane will leave City this summer, with the club finally having agreed a fee with Bayern Munich.

It’s long been reported the Bundesliga champions were interested in the Germany international, 24, with suggestions a deal broke down last summer after the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered in last summer’s Community Shield.

The winger made his return to action with an 11-minute cameo in City’s recent 5-0 thrashing of Burnley, but it looks set to be his final appearance for the club as it’s believed he won’t return once he completes a medical with the Bavarian giants.

Bayern will pay €49million up front with €11m in add-ons, taking the deal to £54.8m. He will sign a five-year contract worth €22m per year - double what City had offered.

Here are the ins and outs of the transfer in full.

Guardiola handed Riyad Mahrez boost for next season

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations has followed the example of this summer’s Euro and Copa America tournaments and has been pushed back a year due to coronavirus.

The continental international tournament was originally scheduled to take place next January in Cameroon, midway through next season, meaning that Riyad Mahrez was set to miss a chunk of the campaign to take part in Algeria’s bid to retain their crown.

The 29-year-old forward has scored nine goals and registered eight assists in the Premier League this season and has been an important player for Guardiola.

The postponement, of course, also means that key Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will be available throughout next season as Jurgen Klopp’s side aim to retain the title.
