Man City midfielder Rodri nominated for Premier League Goal of the Month award

Manchester City midfield enforcer Rodri has been nominated for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for August.

The Spain international, who is 25, netted just his sixth Premier League goal for the club during last weekend's 5-0 hammering of Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium, helping Pep Guardiola's troops secure a second successive victory by the exact same scoreline.

Three nil up and cruising to victory by half time, Rodri piled yet more misery on Arsenal's shoulders by netting City's fourth of the afternoon just eight minutes into the second half.

Teed up by fellow countryman Ferran Torres, who helped himself to a brace against the Gunners, Rodri side-footed home a delicious finish from about 25 yards, almost like he had passed the ball into the net.

It was a lovely finish from the former Atletico Madrid man and one that was most certainly worth of winning the Goal of the Match award in comparison to the other four that found a way past Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

Whilst it may not have any trouble winning City's internal Goal of the Month gong, Rodri's effort has got to see of some fierce competition as far as the Premier League's Goal of the Month award is concerned.

Rodri's effort is one of eight strikes to have been shortlisted for the accolade, with a strong collection of goals making up the initial shortlist.
