Man City midfielder Phil Foden responds to loan speculation

Manchester City teenager Phil Foden has responded to calls for him to leave the club on loan due to his lack of minutes under Pep Guardiola.

The 19-year-old has made just two starts in the Premier League this season due to the abundance of talent in the City midfield.

Foden has impressed in the Champions League, scoring two goals and registering two assists in just 187 minutes on the field.

With game time scarce, there were calls for the England U-21 international to leave the club on loan during the January transfer window in order to aid his development.

However, Guardiola had no interest in sending the youngster out on a temporary spell away from the club and Foden believes he made the right choice to stay.

Asked if if wouldn't want to go anywhere else, he told 90min: "Yeah and its not like I've not like I've not played any minutes at all.

"I've made 50 appearances now for City so the numbers speak for themselves.

"I want to stay as long as I can."

Guardiola has touted Foden as the future of Man City and labelled the playmaker as the most talented player he had ever seen ahead of Barcelona icon Lionel Messi.

Foden revealed Guardiola's praise makes him more hungry to succeed.

He added: "Yeah to be honest he was saying great things in his interviews.

"For me to hear things like that it gives you a lot of confidence and makes you more hungry to play and wanting to work for him.

"I respect him a lot and he believes in me which is a good thing."
