Man City give injury update on two players for FC Copenhagen clash in Champions League

Kyle Walker is likely to miss Manchester City's Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen on Wednesday after limping out of the Manchester derby at the weekend.

Walker has only just returned from injury, playing twice for England over the international break, but went down midway through City's demolition of Manchester United and had to be substituted.

Giving a team news update ahead of the Champions League on Wednesday, Guardiola said he expects Walker to be ruled out of the Copenhagen clash, while Rodri will be assessed on Tuesday after he missed the derby altogether with a minor calf issue.

Guardiola said: "We will train this afternoon [Tuesday] and know exactly if Rodri feels better. I think Kyle is out but we wait for the training session."

The manager was also keen to warn his players not to take Copenhagen lightly, adding that keeping their 100 per cent record in the group so far is the priority this week.

"It is what it is. We have to pay attention because a mistake now and everything is so quick you don't have time to recover," he explained.

"It is different this season for the World Cup. The schedule is like this, everyone has to adapt. Of course we know how important the games at home are to Champions League qualification. I spent last night and this morning paying more attention to Copenhagen and when I face this type of team across Europe they are really well organised and you have to be careful because you have to come back to reality and put an effort to win an important game.

"We were able to make another important game we will be so close to the next stage. It is important to go to the World Cup being there."

Guardiola also wanted his players to forget about their big win over United, and warned them he would be watching to see how they behaved before he picked his team against Copenhagen.

He continued: "That is the problem and after the game against United this is the biggest issue. Hopefully I can tell them and show them to pay a lot of attention because it is not easy to break the structure they have against Sevilla - I saw this morning and they were brilliant, Sevilla struggled to break them.

"I know what they can do, they have a quality to play and are brave to go forward, when they have the ball they don't just play long balls to the striker. They have the ability and courage to play and we have to try to force them to play long balls but they have many many things. I was surprised this morning when I watched how many good things they did."
