Man City fans slam defence after "disastrous" first half display vs Manchester United

Manchester City fans feel their makeshift defence was finally caught out as Manchester United raced into a 2-0 lead in Saturday's derby.

City started brightly, but found themselves 2-0 down after Marcus Rashford's penalty and Anthony Martial's near post shot.

It could have been more for the visitors, as Ederson was called into action three times before the opener, and Rashford missed two fine chances after his penalty.

City, on the other hand, looked poor as Fernandinho and John Stones were partnered in central defence. Angelino was favoured to Benjamin Mendy on the left in a controversial selection decision that United exploited from the start.

Pep Guardiola has persisted with Fernandinho at the back despite the return to fitness of Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, while Angelino was suspect in the defeat to Liverpool and was once again caught out by a fast attack.

Liverpool's 3-1 win over City saw them stretch the City defence last month, while Wolves used their pacey forwards to earn a 2-0 win at the Etihad earlier in the season.

But fans were shocked to see City's defence exposed so effectively by United, and called upon Guardiola to settle on a preferred back four before more points were dropped.
