Man City confirm Scott Carson decision for Brighton and Everton games

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Scott Carson will not play the remaining two Premier League games as Ederson returns to the team.

Carson started his first Premier League game in a decade last week as he lined up for Manchester City in the 4-3 win over St James' Park. City's manager spoke after the game about how important he was to the squad and his impact in the dressing room.

However, the veteran stopper will not retain his place between the sticks for the matches against Brighton and Everton as the Blues round off another successful league campaign this week with Ederson resuming his place in goal.

The Brazilian needs one clean sheet from his final two outings to be certain of claiming a successive Golden Glove award, although he may have already done enough to win the prize; Chelsea's Edouard Mendy is two behind him with just two fixtures to go.

Guardiola has to work out for the Brighton and Everton games how to ensure his starting XI for the Champions League final at the end of May is in the best possible condition and rhythm. While most of the backline were given the night off at Newcastle, the return of Ederson could indicate that Graham Potter's side will face a stronger City side at the Amex on Tuesday night.

City's position cannot change but Brighton could move up to 15th between now and the end of the season, and will be buoyed by having 10,000 supporters to cheer them on.
