Man City confirm coaching staff shake-up following Pep Guardiola departure

Manchester City have confirmed Kolo Toure will leave the club as part of a backroom staff overhaul following the departure of manager Pep Guardiola - (PA)

Jurgen Klopp’s former assistant Pep Lijnders is one of five members of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff to leave Manchester City as they prepare for the appointment of a new manager.

Enzo Maresca is expected to replace Guardiola, who has stood down after a decade in charge at the Etihad Stadium, and the next manager is set to bring in his own backroom team.

Former City captain Kolo Toure is another departure, along with goalkeeping coach Xabi Mancisidor, fitness coach Lorenzo Buenaventura and the former water polo player Manel Estiarte.

Lijnders, who had two spells at Liverpool and was Klopp’s second-in-command when his side won the Champions League and the Premier League, linked up with Guardiola last summer.

The Dutchman, who had an unsuccessful spell in charge of Red Bull Salzburg after Klopp left Liverpool, joined City last summer.

A highly-rated coach, who is thought to have been a influence on City’s more transitional style of play this season, was believed to be offered the chance to stay on in the City Football Group this summer but has opted to leave.

Toure, a former Arsenal defender and Wigan manager, was also brought on to Guardiola’s staff last summer, initially for the Club World Cup.

Mancisidor was at City before Guardiola, spending 13 years at the club after arriving when Manuel Pellegrini was appointed manager.

Buenaventura has worked with Guardiola at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City while Estiarte has also been by his side throughout his time in management.
