Man City confirm 22-man Champions League squad as Pep Guardiola makes Benjamin Mendy decision

Man City have named a 22-man squad for the Champions League group stages.

Following the closure of the European transfer window on Monday, teams competing in this season's Champions League had to submit their squads by 10pm on Tuesday.

City will get their Champions League campaign underway after the international break on Wednesday, September 18, when they take on Shakhtar Donetsk at the Etihad Stadium.

They will also come up against Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb and Italian side Atalanta in the first stage of the competition.

Teams can name a maximum of 25 players on 'List A' of their squad, two of which must be goalkeepers, though City have named just 22, some of which may not even play in the group stages due to injury.

Leroy Sane and Aymeric Laporte have both suffered serious injuries and aren't expected to play again in 2019 but have been named in the squad. As has Benjamin Mendy, who has yet to make an appearance this season as he fights his way back to fitness.

A number of City's promising youngsters, such as Phil Foden, Eric Garcia and Taylor Harwood-Bellis, have also not been named in the squad.

This is because players who were born on, or after, 1 January 1998 and have been eligible to play for the club for two years since their 15th birthday don't need to be registered in 'List A' and are instead on 'List B.'

City can name an unlimited number of players on 'List B' throughout the campaign though the list has to be submitted by 10pm the day before a game.

Pep Guardiola will be able to change the squad again before the knock-out stages commence, should City qualify from their group.

The full squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Bravo, Ederson, Carson

Defenders: Walker, Stones, Zinchenko, Angelino, Laporte, Mendy, Cancelo, Otamendi

Midfielders: Sterling, Gundogan, Rodri, De Bruyne, Sane, Bernardo, Silva, Fernandinho, Mahrez

Forwards: Jesus, Aguero
