Man City can win Premier League title next weekend with a little help from Liverpool FC

Manchester City moved a step closer to the Premier League title despite not even playing this weekend, after second-placed Manchester United dropped points.

United were held by Leeds at Elland Road in a dull 0-0 draw, taking them up to 67 points, now level on games played with City.

That cut the lead to City to ten points with five games left, meaning City need just two more wins to seal the title. Had United won, they would still have needed three wins from their last five games.

Now, with City's lead at ten points with 15 remaining, they can extend that to 13 if they beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in Saturday's early kick-off.

United host Liverpool a day later, and providing City were to win against Palace, they would need to win to keep their faint title hopes alive.

A draw for United against the defending champions - who can't retain their title - would put City a point away from securing the league, while a win for Liverpool would see City crowned 2020/21 champions in as soon as just seven days.

Regardless, if City beat Palace and then Chelsea on May 8, City will be champions. Alternatively, even if City slip up against Chelsea, they could still win the title in a fortnight depending on United's results.

So providing City do their job at Palace, they could find themselves cheering on rivals Liverpool on Sunday to secure another Premier League title.
