Man City 3-0 Manchester United: Erling Haaland at the double in classy Manchester derby triumph

Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City cruised to victory over rivals Manchester United on Sunday at the Etihad Stadium.

Both teams came into the first Manchester derby of the season needing to win following disappointing starts to the Premier League campaign.

Man City had lost back-to-back games against Tottenham and Brighton before the international break, while Man Utd had only won one of their opening four games across all competitions.

Come full-time it was Pep Guardiola’s side celebrating the derby day spoils thanks to brace from Haaland and a timely reminder from Phil Foden.

Man City looked more like their old selves on an emotional occasion following the death of Manchester's former boxing world champion and City fan Ricky Hatton, Guardiola's side returned to winning ways.

Foden opened the scoring in the first half before Haaland took charge after the break, scoring twice and hitting a post.

It was a strong riposte by City after their Premier League title credentials had been questioned following successive defeats.

They were in a different class from United who, despite playing well in patches early on, capitulated in the second half and still seem a long way off the pace.
