Man City 2019 tour suffers another blow as players can't train properly

Manchester City's preparations for the season took another big blow as the conditions in China have left them unable to train.

The Blues were two days late arriving for the Premier League Asia Trophy after unexpected problems with their flight, and Pep Guardiola has said it is a matter of surviving rather than thriving for the players.

"We try to sleep during the night. We want to survive," he said. "We have incredible jet lag. We cannot train, we need to keep energy for the match day."

The manager did not appear pleased with the situation he finds himself in, and received questions about whether he was happy to be there and how seriously he was taking the competition.

He was in little mood to praise the conditions though, and a question about the emergence of young players in the tour - several impressed against West Ham - turned into another gripe.

"Well, first i would say we are delighted to bring young players to play with the first team," he started. "When we arrive at the start of the season, Argentina and Brazil are playing comps from last season, so they cant be here.

"They need time to rest. But we need to play games after a week, with humidity, jet lag, 22 hour flight. They give another alternative for us.

"It’s a friendly but it’s an official game against teams like west ham, wolves...that’s why they are here."
