A man was chased, kicked and threatened with a bladed article during an attempted robbery.

The victim was targeted after walking across the High Level Bridge from Newcastle to Gateshead. He realised he was being followed by two young males after turning right through the Ochre Yards estate in Gateshead.

One of the males, dressed in black clothing, was following him on foot. The other male, who was wearing a face mask and a grey tracksuit, was riding a bike. They began to chase him as he passed between Colombo Square and Camaronian Square.

The victim fell over outside Trigo House. He was kicked by the pair and threatened with a bladed article unless he handed over money. When the victim shouted for help, the two males made off.

The incident occurred at between 11pm and midnight on Sunday, February 12.

Northumbria Police is urging anyone with information regarding the incident, particularly those who were close to Trigo House at the time, to contact them.

They can get in touch by calling 101, quoting crime reference number 018687G/23, or using the 'Tell Us Something' page of their website.
