Man charged with series of Transit van thefts in West Lothian

A man has been charged following a spate of van thefts in West Lothian.

The 23-year-old is accused of stealing six Ford Transit vans over a three month period between January and March this year.

Police say the man is also wanted in connection with a number of other vehicle-based crimes across the region.

He is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later on Friday.

It comes after a number of vans were reported stolen from outside homes in the area, with police carrying out "extensive enquiries" to locate the vehicles.

Detective Constable Robert Gilmour said: "We know the impact that crimes such as these have on the livlihoods of individuals, their families and businesses.

"Extensive enquiries have been carried out by a dedicated team of officers to investigate these incidents.

"I would urge anyone who has any concerns about vehicle crime or suspicious activity in West Lothian to call 101 as soon as possible to allow us to investigate."
