Man charged with murdering Angry Anderson's son felt 'something f***ing evil' controlled him

The man accused of murdering the son of rocker Angry Anderson told partygoers he felt under the control of "something evil" before allegedly bashing his best friend to death, according to court documents.

Narraweena local Mathew Flame, 20, yesterday blew a kiss to his mother from the dock of Manly Local Court after being charged with the murder of 26-year-old Liam Anderson.

The pair had been to a Halloween party on Oxford Street on Saturday night before travelling to a house party on Sydney's northern beaches.

Both Mr Anderson and Mr Flame drank alcohol and allegedly took MDMA, and Mr Flame allegedly consumed more pills before also smoking cannabis, according to the police.

At the house party, he believed he lost consciousness, suffered "heart palpitations and a feeling he was overdosing".

The police documents said when he regained consciousness, he stated he was "under something's control … something f***ing evil".

Mr Flame left the party and Mr Anderson followed, telling revellers he would never leave his "best friend".

The 20-year-old then allegedly attacked Mr Anderson in a Queenscliff reserve early on Sunday morning, leaving behind a scene police described as "bloodied".

The court documents shed light on Mr Flame's state of mind at the time.

"The accused states that he knew what he was doing at the time of the attack, but had no control over his actions."

He later said he felt it was the only way he could "escape" the "reality" he was suffering under.

The plumbing apprentice was "traumatised and in a state of complete shock", a family friend told the ABC.

Mr Flame's barrister Charles Waterstreet requested his client undergo a mental health assessment.

He referred to the matter as "a double tragedy for both families and their friends".

Friends of Mr Anderson have laid flowers at the reserve where he died.

Gary "Angry" Anderson was on tour with Rose Tattoo in Western Australia when he was told of the incident and returned to Sydney.

Liam Anderson shared his father's love of music and was an aspiring rapper.

Those who worked with him recalled his humility and talent.
