Man charged with murder after body discovered in car at Stratford shopping centre

Detectives investigating the death of a man in a shopping centre car park in east London have charged a man with murder.

Vasile Gorghescu, 41, from, Southampton will appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Friday, Metropolitan Police said on Thursday.

The victim's body was found at Stratford Centre car park at 1.17am on Wednesday.

Detectives are still working to confirm the man's identity and inform next-of-kin.

A post-mortem examination will take place at a date yet to be fixed.

Forensics officers have scoured the scene for clues and detectives are examining CCTV footage form around the area.

Chief Superintendent Simon Crick, who is in charge of policing Newham, said: "I know many local people use the Stratford Centre every day and this incident will of course cause considerable concern to shoppers and retailers.

"I would like to reassure people that a man has been charged, but if you have information that you think could help us, I ask that you to contact police."
