Man charged with manslaughter over fatal eight-car pile up

A man who allegedly caused a fatal eight-car crash near Campbelltown on Good Friday has been charged with multiple offences.

Robbie David Crowley, 26, has been charged with 13 offences, including manslaughter and aggravated driving occasioning death, after a 17-year-old man was killed in the multi-vehicle crash on Campbelltown Road at Woodbine.

Police allege Crowley's car veered onto the wrong side of the road and hit an Uber vehicle and six other cars, before bursting into flames.

Crowley's car was allegedly seen speeding past police officers without its headlights on, about 15 minutes before the accident.

The 17-year-old who died was a passenger in the Uber car

The Uber driver and the rest of the passengers were all seriously injured and remain in a serious but stable condition in hospital after undergoing surgery.

On Sunday morning, Mr Crowley, from Mount Annan, faced a bedside hearing in Liverpool Hospital, where he is being treated for his injuries.

He did not apply for bail and bail was formally refused.

He will next appear at Campbelltown Local Court on May 23.
