Man charged over Old Firm murder bid as Celtic fan remains critical

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged attempted murder of a Celtic fan following last month's Old Firm match.

Francis McCann, 47, remains in a critical condition in hospital after reportedly being stabbed in the neck during a disturbance in Blackfriars Street in the Merchant City area of Glasgow.

The incident took place shortly after Celtic's 2-1 win over Rangers on March 31.

Police now say that a 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged attempted murder of Francis McCann.

He is expected to appear before Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Earlier, officers confirmed that another man had been arrested following the large-scale brawl on March 31.

Police said a 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a disturbance in Blackfriars Street at around 5pm that day.

He is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Five in court charged with breaching peace after Glasgow Old Firm brawl

On Monday, five people appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court charged with breach of the peace in connection with the incident.

Kahl Cullen, 23, Gemma Martin, 24, Andrew Quinn, 25, William Barclay, 27, and James Quinn, 20, made no plea when they appeared in court.

They were granted bail pending their next court appearance.
