Man charged over murder of British businessman 'found in sack of pineapples' in Kenya

A man has been charged with the murder of a British man, who was found dumped in a sack of pineapples in Kenya.

Alex Mutua, a Kenyan national, appeared via video link and pleaded not guilty at Makadara High Court to killing Campbell Scott in Nairobi.

A major search operation was launched in the capital after Mr Scott, 58, was reported missing on February 17.

The businessman, from Dunfermline in Fife, was in the city for a work conference at the five-star JW Marriott Hotel.

He was staying with colleagues in his capacity as a senior director for FICO, an American data analytics company.

His body was discovered bound with rope around his hands and legs in Makongo Forest, approximately 60 miles southeast of Nairobi, on February 23.

Mutua is accused of carrying out the crime with other suspects, but he denies any wrongdoing, the Daily Record reports.

He is due to appear in court again on June 17 for a pre-trial and a hearing on the bail application.

Prosecutors have filed an affidavit opposing bail and the court instructed them to submit the statement within three days.

Other suspects still at large include Bernard Mbunga Mbusu and Alphonse Munyao Kilewa, also known as Edu.

Samuel Musembi Kamitu, a fourth suspect, reportedly attempted suicide by poison before fatally stabbing himself at a hideout in Nairobi's Dandora estate.

Kamitu was believed to have been hiding at a friend's house who was unaware of what he had done.

Once he learnt of his crime the friend reported Kamitu to the National Police Service, before discovering him unconscious on his bed.

He was rushed to hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Mr Scott’s husband Simon Farrar revealed this week that he is holding a commemorative gathering in London this Saturday for his “heart of gold” partner.
