A man has been charged by Gardai after he threatened members of the public with a glass bottle before damaging and attempting to steal cars in the north Dublin area last night.
The man in his 40s caused criminal damage to several cars and attempted to also hijack a vehicle on Phibbsborough Road at around 6:15pm before arming himself with the item.
Officers on patrol were alerted about him after he was spotted jumping on cars in the area while also scratching the side of at least one vehicle also.
Soon after, he entered the passenger side of another car and forced the driver to exit the vehicle.
He was eventually arrested on North Circular Road after issuing threats to people with the glass bottle.
Thankfully, nobody was injured during the incidents and the man was detained at the Bridewell Garda Station where he has since been charged.
A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "We have arrested and charged a man following criminal damage caused to cars and an attempted hijacking incident that occurred in the Phibbsborough Road area of Dublin 7 on 11/08/2020 at approximately 6:15pm.
"Gardaí on patrol received reports of a man jumping on cars in the area before entering the passenger side of a another car and forcing the driver to exit the vehicle.
"It is also reported that the man scratched the side panels of at least one vehicle."
He added: "The man was arrested in the North Circular Road area where it is reported he was threatening members of the public with a glass bottle.
"No injuries were reported to have occurred as a result of these incidents.
"The man, aged in his 40s, was detained at the Bridewell Garda Station.
"He has since been charged in relation to this incident and will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice."
