Man charged over Co Tyrone hijacking and security alert

A man has been charged in relation to a hijacking and subsequent security alert in Omagh earlier this month.

The 29-year-old is also accused of possession of articles for use in terrorism.

He is due to appear before Dungannon Magistrates Court on Friday.

The victim of the hijacking was allegedly confronted by three masked men at around 10pm on Saturday 6 May and forced to drive at gunpoint.

The men are alleged to have placed a suspicious object in the driver's vehicle and forced him to drive to the Derry Road area and abandon his car outside Omagh Police Station.

The resulting security alert caused nearby homes to be evacuated.
