May 04--A 32-year-old Chicago man was ordered held without bail Wednesday after being charged with shooting two men, one fatally, as patrons were leaving a South Side bar in April, officials said.
Claudious Williams of the 5700 block of South Winchester Avenue appeared before Judge Laura Sullivan at the Leighton Criminal Court Building. Williams is charged with the April 7 homicide of Marvin Lee, 31.
He is also charged with the attempted murder of another 31-year-old man who survived.
According to Cook County prosecutors, on April 7 at 2:44 a.m. Lee and several friends were leaving Murphy's Lounge, 7640 S. Cottage Grove Ave. as the bar was closing for the evening.
At that point, a verbal altercation broke out between several people. Lee and his friends were involved in the pushing and shouting between his group and the other patrons, according to prosecutors.
After the argument quieted down and people continued to leave the bar, Lee walked to his car and waited for his friend to show up so they could leave, prosecutors said.
About 10 minutes later as Lee waited in his car, Williams and three people walked up to Lee's car. Lee got out of the car and walked up to a friend and the two stood up to the others, prosecutors said in court.
One of the people who walked up to the car then began fighting with Lee and the surviving man. During the fight, Williams allegedly took out a gun and shot Lee at close range on the right side of his head. The surviving victim saw Lee drop to the ground.
Another uncharged co-defendant then fired a second gun at the two victims, prosecutors said.
Williams and the other person fled the scene.
Williams was identified in a photo array as Lee's killer, prosecutors said. Video from the club as well as a professional photographer photographed Williams in the bar. Surveillance video from the bar also showed Williams and the victims engaged in the altercation as they left the bar.
Video then captured a person fitting Williams' description committing the homicide. He was also tied to the video through clothing including dark shoes that had white tongues, as well as a unique belt buckle and key chain.
The photos inside the bar captured Williams wearing the clothing.
According to prosecutors, Williams was out on bail at the time of the murder. On April 3 he posted $20,000 bail after being charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding in a separate case.
Williams is an admitted member of the Winchester boys faction of the Gangster Disciples street gang, according to prosecutors.
