Man charged after woman attacked in Aberdeen city centre

Police have arrested a man in connection with the alleged assault of a woman in Aberdeen.

Officers previously appealed for information to trace the suspect after a 32-year-old was attacked on June 25.

The victim had been on Union Street in the city centre when the incident took place at around 6pm.

A manhunt was launched and a public appeal for information was issued by Police Scotland who released CCTV images in a bid to find the man.

The force confirmed on Friday that they had now arrested and charged a 40-year-old man in connection.

A police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm a 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault on Union Street. The incident happened around 6pm on Thursday, 25 June, 2020.

“The man is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.

“We would like to thank everyone who responded to or shared our earlier appeals.”
